A pregnant woman and her son were killed after rising flood waters swept away their car during Thursday's torrential rain.

DOUGLASS TOWNSHIP, PA — A pregnant woman and her young son were killed in Eastern Pennsylvania Thursday after rising flood waters swept away their car during the torrential rains.
The incident occurred as heavy rains descended upon the region, causing numerous road closures and water rescues.
Sources say the mother and her son were driving on Grist Mill and Locust roads in Douglass Township at 4:30 p.m. Thursday when they became stranded by floodwaters.

"A female reported to be stuck in her vehicle in high waters with her son, and they were not able to get out and the water was starting to come into the vehicle," Douglass Township Police Chief John Dzurek told WFMZ.
Police told the network that the woman, who was in her 30s and 8 months pregnant, did not drive into high the water.

The woman called 911 and was on the phone with dispatch for 49 minutes while rescue efforts were made but the operator eventually lost contact with the woman, Action News reported.
Nearly five hours later, search crews found their bodies inside their car on the embankment of the Manatawny Creek, The Reading Eagle reported.
The tragedy occurred as heavy rains and flooding hit numerous area roadways, resulting in water rescues and road closures.
Stretches of Route 422 in the Pottstown and Lower Pottsgrove area were fully underwater, with cars either floating or submerged. Water rescues were reported in Upper Hanover, Upper Moreland, Pottstown, New Hanover and beyond.
