Toroney Will Be Pottstown's Tax Collector—Again

Barbara Toroney will again serve as Pottstown's tax collector.

Toroney was tax collector for eight years, and had left the position only a few days ago, The Mercury reported.

Toroney lost to Janice Gilyard in last spring's primary. But Montgomery County was unable to secure a bond for Gilyard, rendering her unable to assume the office.

Gilyard offered her resignation to the Borough Council Monday.

The council had 30 days to appoint a replacement, but wanted to act quickly, as tax bills are set to go out, The Mercury reported.
