11 Radnor HS Seniors Named Merit Scholarship Finalists

They join about 16,000 high school seniors from across the United States eligible for some 7,500 scholarships worth more than $32 million.

RADNOR, PA – Radnor High School has 11 seniors who have advanced as finalists in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship program, the Radnor Township District announced recently.

These 11 seniors join about 16,000 high school seniors from across the United States eligible for roughly 7,500 scholarships worth more than $32 million, the district said.

To become a finalist, these standout students submitted a detailed scholarship application in which they provided information about their academic record, participation in school and community activities, and honors and awards received, according to the district. The finalists were also required to demonstrate leadership ability.

Additionally, students who were named finalists must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, an endorsement and recommendation by a high school official, an essay, and SAT scores that confirmed the student's earlier performance on the qualifying test, the district said.

Winners selected from the finalist pool are judged to have the strongest combination of academic skills and achievements, extracurricular accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies, without regard to gender, race, ethnic origin, or religious preference, according to the district.
