$124K Raised To Fight Childhood Cancer At Radnor Middle School Mini-THON

In its nine years, Radnor Middle School's Mini-THON has raised more than $900,000 to help fight childhood cancer.

WAYNE, PA — Radnor Middle School recently held its Ninth annual Mini-THON, and the results are impressive.

The event took place Friday and raised more than $124,000 to help fight childhood cancer.

More than 440 students and staff members danced from late afternoon into the evening to celebrate their efforts in the fight against pediatric cancer.

Students have been raising funds all school year long in support of Four Diamonds at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital.

Mini-THON, modeled after Penn State's dance marathon "THON," includes games, activities, and speakers throughout the evening, celebrating the culmination of weeks of fundraising.

Funds raised support Four Diamonds at Penn State Hershey Children's Hospital.

Reese, an eighth grader at Radnor Middle School and the Student Overall Executive on the Mini-THON committee, shared this about the leadership experience.

"I love working with such an amazing committee," she said. "Leading Mini-THON and engaging with the RMS community has been one of the most rewarding experiences. Mini-THON makes such a difference for kids and families fighting cancer and is unbelievably fun!"

Because of the steady and generous support of communities like Radnor, Four Diamonds can cover 100 percent of all medical expenses related to cancer care not covered by insurance for eligible Four Diamonds children.

"We have such a supportive and caring community here in Radnor," Radnor Middle School Principal Dr. Dave Wiedlich said. "The energy and excitement that our students bring in support of fighting childhood cancer is remarkable.”

“It’s a unique leadership opportunity for our students to help children and their families who are experiencing the challenges of a cancer diagnosis,” Dr. Ian Roth, faculty advisor for Mini-THON, said. "The lasting impact that our students are able to create makes the dedication worth it."

Four Diamonds Mini-THONs are leadership opportunities that empower students to learn about event management and philanthropy. More than 200 schools host a Mini-THON event.
