47-Year Radnor Middle School Employee Retires

Michael Fitzgerald​ graduated from Radnor High in 1971 and began working at the middle school that fall. He had his last shift Wednesday.

WAYNE, PA – The Radnor Middle School community said goodbye to a longtime food service employee on Wednesday, June 13.

According to the Radnor Township School District, Michael "Mickey" Fitzgerald had his final shift in the school's kitchen after nearly 50 years of feeding the smiling students at Radnor Middle School.

The district said Fitzgerald graduated from Radnor High School in 1971 and in the fall of '71 he started working at the middle school.

Fitzgerald has been biking to work for decades and will move to Sacramento this August, the district said.

To prepare him for the journey, Fitzgerald was surprised with two new tires for the terrain in California, a new saddle bag, a travel fixit kit, and lightweight Radnor gear, according to the district.

The school community and special guests including his family members said farewell to Fitzgerald on his final bike ride home Wednesday.
