6 Radnor Students Make 'Student Hall Of Fame' For Start Time Work

RADNOR, PA — Five seniors and one sophomore at Radnor High School were recently chosen to be part of the "Student Hall of Fame" for their advocacy work regarding "more reasonable" school start times.

Radnor High School seniors Asa Hartman, Tobey Le, Owen Leonard, Rachel Marciano, and Annabel Zhao and sophomore Ryan Movsowitz were recently selected to the "Student Hall of Fame" published by StartSchoolLater.net in recognition of "some of the local heroes who are leading the charge to work for the education, safety, and health of their classmates" by advocating for "more reasonable start times."

Some of these students served on the Radnor Township School District Sleep and School Start Time Committee, which spent several years closely examining the issues of student sleep and school start time before recommending that Radnor High School push its start time back from 7:35 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. beginning the 2019-2020 school year.

The school board approved the recommendation at its April 2019 monthly meeting and the new schedule went into effect Sept. 3, 2019, the first day of this school year.

Schedules also changed at Radnor Middle School and each of the three RTSD elementary schools.
Several students selected by StartSchoolLater.net also served as members of School Board committees such as Curriculum and Facilities and were involved in much discussion on the proposed schedule changes and related logisitics.

More recently, the selected students have been visiting local schools and districts to share their experiences and provide support as these school systems investigate their own possible schedule changes.

Since the beginning of the 2019-20 school year, the students have visited at least six different schools, presenting in front of various community members, fellow students, district staff members, and administrators.
