Man Charged With 7th DUI On Delaware County Highway

A repeat DUI offender was arrested in Delaware County recently on what is reported to be his seventh DUI.

UPPER PROVIDENCE, PA — A man accused of his 7th DUI was arrested recently in Delaware County, according to court records and a media report.

Jonny Paul Martinka III, 41, of Bechtelsville, Berks County, was arrested Tuesday by Upper Providence Police.

Martinka has been charged with two counts of felony DUI. One charge is related to a blood alcohol content of .16 percent or higher and the other is related to repeat DUI offenses. Other charges such as driving with a suspended license and careless driving have been filed, as well, court records show.

Martinka was held after failing to post $100,000 bail.

He is scheduled for a Feb. 25 preliminary hearing.

According to Delaware County Daily Times, Martinka was arrested Tuesday night on the Media Bypass after trying to drive around a police vehicle and striking it while under the influence of alcohol when police tried to pull him over. The outlet reports this is his seventh DUI.

A bill aimed at creating harsher penalties for repeat DUI offenders that was created in memory of a Delaware County woman killed by a six-time DUI offender is working its way through the Pennsylvania legislature.
