After Numerous Bridge Strikes, Radnor Installs Warning System
The King of Prussia Road underpass in Radnor now featured an over warning bar and flashing lights. Pavement markings will be added soon.

RADNOR TOWNSHIP, PA — After years of vehicle striking the underpass on King of Prussia Road in Radnor Township, a new overhead vehicle detection system has been installed.
According to the township, the underpass was struck 127 times between 2008 and 2021.
Due to these strikes, township's Board of Commissioners moved ahead with the system's installation in October last year.

The new system was substantially completed on Feb. 14 ahead of schedule.
Now on the underpass is an over warning bar, as well as flashing lights. Pavement markings will be added to the area soon, too.

Officials said the overhead warning bar was struck twice just last week.
Bridge strikes present an obvious danger to the driver, the motoring public, and pedestrians in the area, officials said. More, they cause significant traffic delays when King of Prussia is closed for hours and take their toll on the bridge structure itself.
The hope with the new system is that oversized vehicles will strike the warning bar first, with enough time to allow them to stop before they hit the bridge.
The project cost about $125,000, with funding coming from state grants and the township.
State Rep. Lisa Borowski, a former Radnor Township Commissioner, was integral in securing the grant funding and advocating for the warning system.
