AIS to Screen Documentary on Life of “Jewish Cardinal”

Student-faculty directed film on Jean-Marie Lustiger explores his human rights advocacy

ROSEMONT, PA – A moving documentary on the life of Cardinal Jean-Marie Lustiger – co-produced by Agnes Irwin alumna Mary Beth Smith ’12 and French teacher Barbara Barnett and featuring a never-seen-before interview with the Cardinal, will be screened in the West-Wike Theatre at The Agnes Irwin School on Wednesday, April 16 from 4-5 p.m., followed by a Q&A session with the film’s directors.

“No one else in the world has seen this interview,” said Barnett of the 15-minute documentary on Cardinal Lustiger’s conversion and dual identity as both Catholic and Jewish. The documentary, entitled Lustiger: The Jewish Cardinal, is the result of a yearlong independent study between Barnett and her former student, Mary Beth Smith, who currently attends Washington & Lee University.
