RADNOR, PA — Carrying signs saying “Mummers Parade for Climate Justice,” the Vaudevillains New Year's Brigade stopped by the Radnor home of Vanguard’s CEO Tim Buckley on Sunday afternoon.
The protest, organized by the Earth Quaker Action Team, a nonprofit organization committed to saving the environment, was staged several days before Buckley’s annual webinar for customers, “A Look Ahead to 2024.”
The protestors' message was for Vanguard to stop investing in fossil fuels and invest more in clean energy.
The dancers, dressed as whales, mermaids and horseshoe crabs, paraded down the street outside Buckley’s home.
“Now is a great time for Buckley to try a different approach,” Eve Gutman, a spokeswoman for the group, said Tuesday afternoon.
Gutman said that the group had not yet received an official response from Vanguard.
Gutman said that Vanguard has the means to influence companies in its portfolio to shift away from climate destruction and move toward clean energy.
Vanguard said its economists have been researching the impact of climate change for decades. Vanguard’s reports on climate change are available here.
