RADNOR, PA — A Radnor Police vehicle and a car crashed Thursday night, seriously injuring the civilian driver, police said.
The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. on Lancaster Avenue at King of Prussia Road, where an officer was driving to the scene of a reported assault in progress, said Radnor Police Sgt. Brady McHale.
The officer was heading eastbound on Lancaster Avenue when his patrol vehicle collided with a car that was exiting Interstate 476, McHale said.
Both vehicles became disabled and are most likely totaled. NBC10 shared photos of a Radnor Police cruiser with rear-bumper damage and a car with heavy front-end damage.
It wasn't immediately clear what caused the crash.
The woman driving the civilian vehicle was brought to Paoli Hospital with serious lower-body injuries. She was reported in stable condition on Friday morning.
The officer was treated for head and arm injuries at Bryn Mawr Hospital. He was released early Friday.
Police were responding to a reported assault in progress on the 1000 block of East Lancaster Avenue, McHale said.
"There were two males fighting," McHale said. "One male found another male underneath his vehicle. We don't know what he was doing, but we believe there was a theft in progress. So he confronted the offender, and they engaged through a confrontation"
The suspect, who was intoxicated, was arrested and charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness — all summary offenses.
The crash is under investigation by the Radnor Police Department's Highway Patrol & Traffic Safety Unit.
