RADNOR TOWNSHIP, PA — Villanova University has opened its Cabrini Campus, bringing new life to the 112-acre site of the former Cabrini University in Radnor Township.
Villanova acquired the land in June 2024, when Cabrini closed after 67 years.
After two years of renovations, Villanova announced Monday that the campus is open and ready to welcome students.
Located 2 miles from Villanova's main campus, the Catholic university says the Cabrini Campus supports all aspects of student life, from academics to residential living to spiritual facilities. That includes nearly 30 classrooms, housing for about 900 students, and a renovated student center.
Campus recreation includes the 100,000-square-foot Dixon Center and Nerney Pavillion offer a gym, indoor pool, multiple basketball courts and a suspended indoor track. The Villanova field hockey team will establish its permanent home on the campus, at the site of the former Edith Robb Dixon Field.
Shuttles will transport Villanova students, faculty and staff between the two campuses.
Also a Catholic institution, Cabrini University was founded in 1957. The school closed after the 2023-24 school year because of financial challenges.
Villanova President Rev. Peter M. Donohue called the campus opening a "significant milestone in our University history."
"As Villanova begins this new chapter, we do so with deep respect for Cabrini's history, mission and the people who shaped it," Donohue said in a statement. "The Cabrini Campus will honor the remarkable legacy entrusted to us while expanding our mission in ways that will serve students and society for decades to come."
