RADNOR TOWNSHIP, PA — A town hall meeting is scheduled next week to discuss the ongoing process to find a new home for the courthouse serving Radnor Township.
Local officials scheduled the meeting for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Radnorshire Room of the Radnor Township Building (301 Iven Ave., Wayne).
The meeting will center around ongoing efforts to find a new home for the local magisterial court, which is districted for Radnor Township but located in a Newton Square office park.
"This Town Hall offers an important opportunity for community members to learn about updates, ask questions, and provide feedback regarding the Magisterial District Court House within the Township," the Township said in the meeting announcement. "Residents are encouraged to attend and participate in this civic discussion."
Radnor officials originally wanted to move the court to 405 W Wayne Ave. — a building that last functioned as a veterinary office. The township would have purchased the property for $1.45 million and leased it out to Delaware County, which oversees the court.
The plan was dropped after residents expressed concerns about putting the court in a heavily residential neighborhood. But local officials still want to move the courthouse somewhere in the township to make it more accessible for residents and police.
Magisterial district courts handle lower-level matters in the legal system, including small claims, landlord-tenant disputes, summary offenses and preliminary hearings in criminal cases. Serious criminal matters advance to higher courts thereafter.
Radnor Township's designated court (Magisterial District Court 32-2-43) is located at 4655 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square.
