Arrest Made In Delco Librarian Assault, Library Robbery: Police

Darby Borough Police said they have arrested a 40-year-old man who allegedly broke a Delco librarian's back and then robbed the library.

DARBY BOROUGH, PA – A 40-year-old homeless man has been arrested and charged in connection with an assault and robbery at a Darby library in mid July, authorities said Tuesday.

Darby Borough Police said Terrell Carter, 40, was arrested without incident at about 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lehigh and Broad streets by SEPTA and Darby police.

Carter is facing three separate felony robbery counts, felony aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, and related crimes, court records show.

He is accused of robbing the Darby Free Library of fundraising money and attacking a 60-year-old librarian, breaking her back, on July 12, police said.

Police plan to give the library a check to recoup the lost funds.

The victim is at home recovering from her injuries, according to police.

Darby Borough Police Chief Robert Smythe called Carter a "bad person" and said he is relieved he is off the street.

Carter is being held on 10 percent of $500,000 bail and is slated to appear for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 8.
