'Berenstain Bears' Creator, Radnor Native Being Honored Saturday

Janice Grant Berenstain, a Rosemont native, will be honored with a plaque dedication ceremony Saturday, Oct. 7 in Clem Macrone Park.

BRYN MAWR, PA – Clem Macrone Park just reopened after renovations and now it's getting a new feature that honors a Radnor native whose literary works have influence countless kids and sold millions of copies.

Radnor Township native Janice Grant Berenstain, who co created of the famous "Berenstain Bears" children book series with her husband Stan, will be honored with a plaque dedication ceremony in Clem Macrone Park Saturday, Oct. 7.

The event will be held at 11 a.m. in the park, located at 810 Conestoga Road, Bryn Mawr.

Following the plaque dedication, there will be a Berenstain Bears book reading with Radnor Police and a visit from Brother and Sister Bear.

Since the first Berenstain Bears book released in the early 1960s, more than 260 million copies Berenstain Bears books have been sold worldwide.

She attended Randor High School before studying at the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art where she met Stan.

The two married in 1946 and remained so until Stan's 2005 death.

Jan Berenstain died in 2012 in Doylestown.
