Bill Blocking Release of Shooting-Involved Officers' Names Vetoed By Wolf: Report
Gov. Tom Wolf cited openness and transparency as his reason for striking the bill down.
A bill that was designed to keep the names of police officers involved in shooting from being released was vetoed by Gov. Tom Wolf Monday, with Wolf citing openness and transparency as his reason for doing so, Philly.com reports.
Philly.com reports the legislature does not appear to be planning on appealing Wolf's veto, but said State Rep. Martina White of Philadelphia plans to reintroduce the bill in the next legislative session.
The bill would have prevented public officials from releasing the names of police officers involved in shootings until at least 30 days after the shooting occurred or after official investigations are completed.

"While I am deeply concerned for the safety of the commonwealth's police officers, government works best when trust and openness exist between citizens and their government, and as such, I cannot sign into law a policy that will enshrine the withholding of information in the public interest," Wolf said in his veto message.
