William White: Patriot and Founder of The Episcopal Church with Sarah Barringer Gordon, J.D., Ph.D.

Sarah Barringer Gordon will present on Bishop William White. She’ll illuminate Bishop White’s role not only as the founder of the Protestant Episcopal Church in 1789, but also his life as a patriot during the American Revolution.
Sally Gordon is the Arlin M. Adams Professor of Constitutional Law and Professor of History, emerita, at the University of Pennsylvania. She is best known for her work on religion in American public life and the law of church and state, especially for the ways that religious liberty developed over the course of American national history. She earned both a Master of Arts in Religion degree and a juris doctor from Yale University and a doctorate in history from Princeton University.
