Carol H. Axelrod Memorial Blood Drive Coming To Radnor Tuesday

A blood drive will also be held Monday at Penn Medicine at Radnor.

RADNOR, PA – May is Trauma Awareness Month and Radnor area residents will have several chances to give blood next week, as the American Red Cross is setting up shop in two locations over two days. One of the drives is the annual Carol H. Axelrod Memorial Drive.

Residents can stop by Penn Medicine at Radnor, 250 King of Prussia Road on Monday, May 8 between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. to donate.

If you can't make it on Monday, you can stop by the Radnor Township Building for the Carol H. Axelrod Memorial Drive from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 9.

You can register for blood donation slots for the annual drive by emailing info@chablooddrive.org. See open donation slots online here.

The Carol H. Axelrod Memorial Drive enters its 10th year in 2017 and seeks to collect 522 units of blood this year.

"If we can reach that goal, we will have collected enough blood to have helped as many as 10,000 patients spend more time with their families," the drive's website says.

Tuesday's drive will feature raffles, prizes, refreshments, and special surprises for donors.All donors will receive a gift bag, as well.

“A single car accident victim can need as many as 100 units of blood,” Alana Mauger, external communications manager for Penn-Jersey Red Cross Blood Services, said in a statement. “In trauma situations, when there’s no time to check a patient’s blood type, emergency personnel reach for type O negative red blood cells and type AB plasma.”
