CHELTENHAM- Archbishop Carroll (1-2) lost to Bishop McDevitt (2-1) 34-29 on Saturday night at Cheltenham high school. The Patriots were at the goal line when time expired, leaving the Patriots with a heartbreaking loss.
IN SHORT
The Patriots defense led the way in the first quarter, shutting down the explosive Mcdevitt offense. However, Carroll could not find the end zone as well, despite a number of strong runs from running back Eric Massenberg. In the second quarter, things started to pick up in a big way. After a Sal Bello interception, the Lancers were able to score on a 14 yard passing touchdown. The Lancers would build on their lead moments later with another passing touchdown. The Patriots would respond with a touchdown of their own. A botched snap turned into a 75 yard rushing touchdown from Teron Dobbs. Both teams would trade touchdowns once more going into halftime with the Patriots trailing 21-14.

The Patriots would quickly score off of a Lou Dominique 6 yard reception to begin the third quarter. Once more, McDevitt would go back to the air, this time connecting on a 67 yard passing touchdown. After a fumble from Carroll and a rushing touchdown from the Lancers, the Patriots were in a huge hole. However, the Patriots would battle, forcing a safety with under 6 minutes to play in the 4th quarter. Massenberg would then score on a 25 yard rushing touchdown to cut the lead to five. After retrieving the ball on a fumble at the 31 yard line with 1:13 remaining, the Patriots drove down the field but could not score at the 2 yard line as time expired.

Teron Dobbs- The wide receiver did a little bit of everything, combining for three touchdowns on the day.
OTHER KEY PERFORMANCES
Eric Massenberg- The running back brought the Patriots to within five on a huge 25 yard rushing touchdown, with 3:40 left in the 4th quarter.
Sal Bello- The quarterback struggled at times, yet continued to lead his team down the field, throwing for two touchdowns.
COACH'S TAKE- "We're a close group. We kept battling all game. Time just ran out. I thought we had a lot of opportunities, but it wasn't our day."- Coach Joe Powell
THEY SAID IT- "We had a tough time covering the pass. We're not big physically, so we put six in the box to stop the run. They just made plays."
