Celtic calligraphy, also known as “uncial,” is most famously known from the Book of Kells, but is a lovely rounded hand that works well in contemporary settings. In this 2-day workshop, we’ll learn the basics of writing uncial letters and add some Celtic illumination techniques--simple knotwork, patterned borders and “dot-work,” and zoomorphic initials (letters that incorporate animals)

No experience necessary. See the materials list for what to bring; there is a $10 supply fee due to the instructor.

Meg Kennedy is a calligrapher and book artist whose award-winning work has been exhibited nationally and in Venice, Italy. She is past president of the Philadelphia Calligraphers’ Society and has taught for the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Kutztown University, Swarthmore College, and numerous local arts organizations and schools.
