Community Yard Sale

On Saturday, September 10th, Church of the Saviour, 651 N. Wayne Ave., will transform its front parking lot into a community yard sale and flea market of new and pre-owned goods, thanks to vendors on a mission to help orphaned Haitian babies.

This 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. fundraiser will feature thousands of upscale, gently used items to help support Angel House Orphanage in Petionville, Haiti, for newborns and toddlers desperately in need of loving care. The orphanage provides around-the-clock mothering and meets the medical needs for these victims of the island nation still crushed by the January 2010 earthquake. The orphanage needs $8,500 annually per child to provide a healthier start to life until adoptions can be made by loving parents.

Community members are invited to rent spaces by registering here. All of the money raised from the space rental, as well as funds gained via the sale of specially donated goods - Christmas décor, costume jewelry, kitchenware and glassware - will be donated to the orphanage through its parent organization, Three Angels Children's Relief.

Event coordinator Bea Gallagher shares that several members of Open Hearts Open Homes - a group of foster and adoptive families, social workers and others who have a heart for compromised children - were moved to action while on a mission trip to the orphanage in January 2014. "Angel House is an oasis of hope set in an environment of extreme poverty. We need to raise awareness and funding because these abandoned children have no other family options in Haiti. They need help."

Three Angels Children's Relief, in operation since 2003, also conducts a life-development program providing impoverished yet highly motivated mothers and fathers a place to fashion jewelry and generate income for their families. A sampling of these handmade bracelets will be available for purchase at the yard sale.

Open Hearts Open Homes is part of the Care Ministry at Church of the Saviour, a biblically based, intergenerational and multi-ethnic Christian church in Wayne, PA, for families and singles.
