CRISTO REY PHILADELPHIA HIGH SCHOOL ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP WITH CABRINI COLLEGE

Cristo Rey Forms First Higher Education Partnerships

In preparation for the graduation of its first class of seniors in June 2016, Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School announced its first higher education partnerships with Cabrini College and Chestnut Hill College.

For Cristo Rey Philadelphia, college partnerships like these will help the school provide a top quality college preparatory education to the city’s most in need students, introduce students to college campuses, make college accessible and affordable for graduates, and develop a pipeline of qualified and diverse undergraduate candidates from Philadelphia and Camden to our partner colleges.

“Our higher education partnerships are essential for ensuring successful completion of college for Cristo Rey Philadelphia students,” said John R. McConnell, Founder and President of Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School. “Our partners help to make the entire college experience successful - not just the academic experience, but the social and financial experience also.”

Dual-Credit Program with Cabrini College:
In partnership with Cabrini, Cristo Rey will offer a dual-credit program for students. The dual-credit program will provide juniors and seniors at Cristo Rey the opportunity to earn up to 30 college credits through dual-credit summer programming, and other educational programs. The program will launch at Cristo Rey’s North Philadelphia campus this July with the offering of Psychology 101.

The program offers Cristo Rey Philadelphia students the opportunity to earn college credits while in high school to reduce their long-term college expenses.

“For many students, the cost of attending college seems daunting,” says Cabrini College President Donald B. Taylor. “This partnership demonstrates the College’s commitment to making higher education an accessible and affordable opportunity.”

Chestnut Hill College Scholarships for Graduates:
Chestnut Hill College announced on May 21 two $20,000 scholarships for Cristo Rey Philadelphia graduates. This partnership is Cristo Rey’s first financial commitment from a college or university.

The scholarships are renewable for up to four years of full-time enrollment and will be awarded to two students entering Chestnut Hill College as freshmen each fall from Cristo Rey Philadelphia High School, starting in the fall of 2016.

The Cristo Rey Network of schools boasts a 100 percent college acceptance rate. In addition to following this tradition with its first graduating class in June 2016, Cristo Rey Philadelphia is striving to reduce the financial burden of college for its graduates. These scholarships, paired with financial aid, will make an undergraduate education affordable for a Cristo Rey student.

“I am thrilled about our partnership with Chestnut Hill College,” says Cristo Rey Principal Michael Gomez. “After meeting with their team, I know that our students will be cared for until they graduate. Having a partnership like this one helps make college affordable to our students. “

Partnerships with institutions of higher education, like Cabrini College and Chestnut Hill College, are paving a pathway to college for Cristo Rey Philadelphia students, making their dreams more accessible.
