Darby Creek Valley Assoc Pres, Others' Environmental Work Praised

Jaclyn Rhoads, president of the Darby Creek Valley Association, and Delaware Riverkeeper Maya Van Rossum received high praise recently.

Two local environmental stewards were recognized for their work to protect the Delaware Watershed recently, according to the Darby Creek Valley Association.

PennFuture recently honored Jaclyn Rhoads, PhD., President of Darby Creek Valley Association, and Delaware Riverkeeper Maya Van Rossum as its "Women Of The Delaware Watershed" for 2018 during an event at Philadelphia’s Independence Seaport Museum.

"My fellow board members, colleagues, and volunteers devote countless hours for the environment. I am blessed to be surrounded by so many awesome individuals" Rhoads said of the event. "This award is really about the collective efforts of all these people that I have the honor of working with regularly."

DCVA Board members Ann Jackson, Toni McIntosh, and Kate Doms joined Rhoads and her husband Bill for the occasion.

Rhoads is a professor of environmental policy at Drexel University and also serves as President of Friends Of The Heinz Refuge.

In addition, Rhoads was recently named Environmental Advocate of the Year by the National Association of Women Business Owners, South Jersey Chapter. She lives in Norwood with her husband and two sons.

Other distinguished women receiving recognition from PennFuture were

  • Katie McGinty, former Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection;
  • The Hon. Donna Bullock, member of PA House of Representatives for Philadelphia County;
  • Joanne Douglas, director of Bartram’s Garden High School River Internship, environmental educator at Glen Foerd on the Delaware, and founding member of EDGE, Encouraging Development of a Green Economy.
