Deadly 2017 Shooting Lands Delco Man In Prison For Life

Devonte Perkins, 19, of Chester, was sentenced to life without parole Tuesday in connection with the 2017 shooting death of Blane Jones.

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — A 19-year-old Chester man was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the 2017 fatal shooting of another man, according to the Delaware County District Attorney's Office.

District Attorney Katayoun M. Copeland announced Devonte Perkins, 19, of Chester, was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the fatal shooting of 34-year-old Blane L. Jones, II, in Chester on June 27, 2017.

Perkins was convicted of first-degree murder and related firearms offenses in December 2018.

At about 7:42 p.m. on June 27, 2017, Chester Police Officers were called to the area of 11th Street and McDowell Avenue for a report of a gun fight.

At the scene, police found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Jones was shot several times in the upper torso areas and was immediately taken to the hospital for emergency surgery. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead the following day.

Chester Police Department and the Delaware County CID launched an investigation into his death immediately.

On June 28, 2017, Chester Detective David DeFrank got surveillance of the moments leading up to and after the homicide.

As a result of witness testimony and positive photo identification, Perkins was confirmed as the person who shot and killed Jones. Perkins was charged with first-degree murder and related offenses.
