Delco Man Found Guilty Of First-Degree Murder

Leyron D. Johns robbed, then shot his victim in the head.

A Delaware County man has been found guilty of first-degree murder, according to the Delaware County District Attorney's Office.

Leyron D. John, 20, of Chester, was found guilty for the July 27, 2015 shooting death of Joseph Torres, a father from West Chester, after a four-day non-jury trial. Judge Gregory M. Mallon handed down the verdict.

The DA's office said police found Torres, who was bleeding from a gunshot wound to the back of his head, behind Mano's Gulf station in the 900 black of Kerlin Street at about 9:50 p.m. on July 27, 2015. Torres was taken to Crozer Medical Center where he dies on July 28, 2015.

A Chester Police and the Delaware County Criminal Investigation Division (CID) investigation determines Torres was robbed then shot in the head by Johns, the DA's office said.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Daniel McDevitt. Det. Adam Sendek of Delaware County CID and Det. Patrick Mullen of Chester Police were the lead investigators.

John's sentencing is slated for Dec. 9, according to the DA's office.
