Delco Podiatrist Pleads Guilty to $5 Million Fraudulent Scheme: US Attorney
A Delaware County podiatrist has pleaded guilty to submitting $5 million in claims for procedures he never performed, the US Attorney said.

HAVERTOWN, PA — A Delaware County podiatrist has pleaded guilty to running a $5 million scheme to defraud Medicare, Medicaid and other private insurance companies, United States Attorney Zane David Memeger announced.
Stephen A. Monaco, 59, of Broomall, ran A Foot Above Podiatry Inc. in Havertown from January 2008 through October 2014, officials said.
During that time period, Monaco submitted requests for reimbursement to Medicare, Medicaid and four private insurance companies for procedures and services which he had never provided, according to authorities.

Some of the podiatric procedures which he submitted claims for included injections, debridement (removal of dead, infected or foreign material to promote wound healing) and nail avulsions (removal of the entire or partial nail plate), the U.S. attorney said.
Monaco faces up to 10 years in prison and $5 million in restitution, the authorities said.

Sentencing will take place on Nov. 30.
