Delco Police Double Opioid Overdose Antidote Use In 2016, Report Says
While the number of lives saved is commendable, overdose deaths also increased in 2016.

The amount of times opioid-overdose-reversing drugs were administered in Delaware County doubled from 2015 to 2016, according to Delaware County District Attorney Jack Whelan.
Whelan told CBS Philly that Delaware county police officers administered Narcan 151 times in 2015.
Just a year later, that number doubled to 350, the outlet reports.

“We’re not even counting the State Police, but the officers in the municipal police departments across Delaware County had 350 saves," Whelan told the outlet.
The numbers show just how bad the opioid drug epidemic is in the county.

Not only have lives saved from Narcan increased, Whelan went on to say heroin and fentanyl-related overdose deaths have increased in 2016.
Whelan slammed critics of police department carrying Narcan when speaking with CBS Philly.
“We quite frankly find it offensive that anyone could even consider letting someone die," he said.
