NamasDay: A Philly Area Yoga Festival

On Sunday, September 30th, Philly Area Yoga will host the first annual yoga festival, Namas Day, at the Wayne Art Center.  The goal of the event is to bring together the ever-growing Philadelphia area yoga community and share the talent from local instructors and wellness professionals.

This full day of yoga classes and information exchange starts at 9am and goes through late afternoon.  Participants can opt to take a variety of classes and workshops ranging from ranging from Creative Vinyasa and Ashtanga, to Acro Yoga, Meditation, and even a Mini-Retreat.  Local yoga instructors include, Mark Nelson from The Yoga Garden, Bob Butera from YogaLife Institute and Jennifer Schelter, who many Philadelphians recognize as the instructor and co-founder of the annual Yoga on the Steps fundraising event.  There will be a total of 9 workshops scheduled, all taught by local instructors and professionals.

In addition to the yoga workshops, local vendors will be sharing their services and products.  There will be jewelry, Jade Yoga mats, holistic health products, yoga apparel, tea, and other related products.  Great Harvest Bread Company will be offering lunch and snack options throughout the day.  And local, talented photographer, Joe Longo, will be running mini-yoga portrait sessions.  This is a wonderful and accessible way for many yogis to have professional photos done at a very reasonable price.

Mary Fetterman, founder of Philly Area Yoga, says she always wanted to create an event like this.  “There are similar events happening in cities all across the country so why shouldn’t we do it here?” says Mary “One thing that is important to us, is that the event takes place outside of a yoga studio and is presented by a variety of talent – completely neutral.  It wasn’t created to benefit any particular studio and can remain open to new instructors each year.  This is a philosophy that also surrounds our website PhillyAreaYoga.com.”

Mary says that response from the community has been overwhelming with emails coming in daily.  “We’re really looking forward to Namas Day, apparently so is the community – especially as it grows annually.”
