Villanova Championship Celebrations: Horse Assault, Fires, Minor Injuries, Police Say

Radnor police told USA Today that one person was arrested for assaulting a police horse during celebrations around campus.

A person was arrested for assaulting a police horse during celebrations at Villanova following the team's NCAA championship, police told USA Today.

Radnor police Sgt. Shawn Dietrich told the publication one person is charged with misdemeanor assault on a police animal in connection with the incident.

“There were a lot of individuals who were highly intoxicated,” Dietrich told USA Today.

In addition to the alleged horse assault, police dealt with several fires and dozens of minor injuries, PhillyVoice reported.

Villanova cancelled all classes Tuesday due to the historic win, the university announced.

Villanova took down the University of North Carolina for the NCAA Championship by a final score of 77-74, thanks to an incredible buzzer beating three-pointer from Kris Jenkins.

The win is the first NCAA Championship for Villanova since 1985, and their second in school history.
