Four People, One Dog Rescued From Mt. Airy Residential Fire Wednesday Morning

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are unknown, the Philadelphia Fire Department said.

Four people and a dog were rescued from a burning building Wednesday morning in Mt. Airy thanks to a very fast response from the Philadelphia Fire Department.

Crews responded to Crittenden and East Upsal streets at about 7:15 a.m. Wednesday for a residential fire, about 3 minutes after getting the call.

When responders arrived they received reports of people trapped inside the second floor of the twin story building that was showing medium smoke.

Firefighters then put ladders up to the second floor, went in and recused three people, the fire department said.

Additionally, firefighters went into the first floor and rescued a fourth person, according to the fire department.

A dog in the home was also pulled safely from the burning structure.

The fire department said those rescued suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital for evaluation.

The fire department said the fire was under control by about 7:36 a.m.

About 11 fire apparatuses and 40 person ell were on scene for the blaze, according to the fire department.

The Salvation Army also responded to the scene to help first responders.

The cause of the blaze and the damage done to the building will be determined after a fire investigation, according to the department.
