Great Escape: Sports

You sign your kids up for sports because you know it's good for them. But what about you?

Being a parent is a demanding, full-time job and finding a little “me time” can be a challenge. Each week, Patch will be finding new great escapes, at least temporarily, from the toils of being a parent.

This week get some ideas on how you can get some exercise in sporty ways, especially if you’re someone who does not like going to gyms.

A popular sport with many adults is tennis, and Radnor Township has a number of public courts for you to use. All you need is someone to play with.

The courts are located at Clem Macrone Park in Rosemont and Warren Filipone Park in West Wayne. Radnor Township School District’s courts are located at Ithan Elementary School, Radnor Middle School and Radnor High School (which has lights).

If you want to continue your tennis playing into the cold weather seasons, consider indoor tennis lessons and clubs at Radnor Racquet Club.

The Delaware Valley Tennis Academy holds year-round events and clinics at Radnor or Bryn Mawr locations.

There are member and non-member prices for their offerings.

Just because you can eat and drink while playing a sport does not mean it is not a perfectly respectable sport, right? If that’s what you like to do, get out to Playdrome in Devon.

They’ve got the bowling balls and the shoes. You bring the beer and a steady hand.

If you’re someone who prefers your sports solo, consider swimming, a very healthy and mind-clearing exercise.

Community swimming is held at the indoor pool at Radnor High School during part of the year and during specified hours.

Annual membership is $100 a year for adults and $30 for children.

Contact the high school pool staff at 610-293-0855 ext. 3549 with any questions.

Get out your stress by swinging at bat at Grand Slam U.S.A., a indoor batting cage in Malvern.

Each batting cage has the option for either baseballs or softballs, can be set at three speeds, and has adjustable height for pitches.

The cages are coin operated.
