Hanging by a thread
The dried leaf seemed suspended by an invisible hand as it swirled around above my head. I'm glad I had my camera to record the moment.
I decided to walk up to the library via the Radnor Trail on Saturday afternoon, and happened to see a dried leaf bobbing and twisting at the end of an almost invisible silken strand. Fortunately, I had brought my little Canon SD990 point-and-shoot, and among the dozens of shots I took, this is my favorite.
Trying to fix the focus was the main challenge, since the electronic eye didn't "see" the leaf among all the other elements in the shot. It was a combination of guess work, trial-and-error, and pure serendipity.
Only after I returned home did I discover that the camera has a way to fix the focus for multiple shots. That would have been an excellent option to have known about.
