Head Of Delco Emergency Services Reportedly Resigns Amid Hit And Run Case
Edwin Truitt helmed the county's 911 center for 40 years, report says.

Edwin J. Truitt, former Delaware County Emergency Services Director, resigned this week after new information surfaced regarding a hit and run incident involving Truitt driving county-owned vehicle, according to the Delaware County Daily Times.
The outlet reports that Truitt, 79, of Drexel Hill, stepped down after a criminal charge was filed against him stemming from a Sept. 29 incident on state Route 252.
According to court documents, Truitt has been charged with misdemeanor accidents involving damage to attended vehicle or property; summary offense of following to closely and failure to stop and give aid.

Truitt is scheduled to appear before Judge Walter A. Strohl on Jan. 17 for his preliminary hearing, court documents show.
Truitt was initially only cited for the hit and run, but after the citations were withdrawn and the incident investigated further, Pennsylvania State Police refiled the summary offenses and added the misdemeanor after discovering an error in paperwork filed with the incident, the Times reports.

With the misdemeanor charge added to the summary offenses, Truitt could face up to a year in jail, according to the Times.
The Times reports Truitt struck another vehicle with a county-owned SUV he was driving at about 8 a.m., Sept. 29. Truitt is reported to have follow the vehicle he hit into a parking lot only to leave the parking lot without making contact with the other driver, according to the Times.
