Historic Delaware County Castle Destroyed By Fire

A 200-year-old castle in Chadds Ford that was in need of repairs went up in flames early Tuesday.

A historic castle in Chadds Ford, Delaware County was destroyed in an overnight fire, according to multiple reports.

The nearly 200-year-old structure, which was listed for sale for $674,000, is known as the Rocky Hill Castle.

6ABC reports the fire, which gutted the stone castle, broke out around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The 12-bedroom property, which has been owned by the same people since 1957, was in need of repairs, according to a Zillow.com listing.

“This home was built by a Philadelphia business owner and was rumored to include about 600 acres. It was a “summer home” at that time, equipped with servant’s quarters on the 3rd floor,” the listing said.

The castle, located on Bullock Road, sits on five acres.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
