Hoax Threat Prompts SWAT, Bomb Squad Response In Delco Sunday

The county's Bomb Squad and Central DELCO Tactical Team were called to action after a hoax threat mentioned pipe bombs and shooting police.

UPLAND, PA — A deadly stabbing and bomb threat in Delaware County turned out to be hoaxes and prompted a heavy police response Sunday, according to authorities.

Upland Borough Police said at about 212:45 p.m. Sunday, Delaware County 911 got two calls saying a woman had been stabbed to death inside a business at an office complex located in the 600 block of Upland Avenue in Upland.

Police said the caller also said pipe bombs were left at that location and that they were prepared to shoot responding officers.

Upland Police and neighboring departments responded to the building and evacuated about 60 people who were in a separate section of the building where they were attending church services.

The Delaware County Bomb Squad and Central DELCO Tactical Team responded along with detectives from the District Attorney's Office.

Police said eventually, officers went in and found no stabbing victim or pipe bombs.
