Cat, Dog Die In Villanova House Fire, Roads Closed

A house on the 600 block of Newtown Road the Villanova section of Radnor caught fire Tuesday morning, officials said.

VILLANOVA, PA — Two animals died during house fire in the Villanova section of Radnor that led to road closures, according to township officials and a news report.

Radnor Police said a fire broke out at a home on the 600 block of Newtown Road at about 10:13 a.m. Tuesday.

Main Line Media News reports a dog and a cat died in the fire.

The outlet reports responders tried to give the dog oxygen before taking to a veterinarian where it later died.

Firefighters and police worked feverishly trying to revive the animal, giving it oxygen before they rushed it to a police car to take it to Radnor Veterinary hospital where it succumbed to the smoke.

Due to Radnor Fire Department activities, Conestoga Road, Newtown Road, and parts of Radnor Chester Road are closed, officials said.

The public is urged to avoid the area due to traffic congestion until 4 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the Berwyn Fire Company, the fire was under control in about an hour.

There is no word on how much damage the fire caused or if anyone was hurt in the fire.
