Hundreds Peacefully Protest On Main Line Thursday

Thursday's peaceful protest on the Main Line was full of "positive vibes" as hundreds demonstrated their support for the black community.

MAIN LINE, PA — Thursday saw a large, peaceful protest along the Main Line in a display of solidarity for the black community with hundreds of people participating in the family friendly demonstration. The peaceful protest was organized by the newly-formed group Main Line for Black Lives.

Demonstrators of all ages marched from Wayne to Paoli to stand for justice following the death of George Floyd, who died after former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for about nine minutes.

Chauvin and three other former officers are facing charges in connection with Floyd's death. The officer's actions have been strongly condemned by police departments along the Main Line, all of which reiterated their commitment to strong community relations and accountability.

Radnor Township officials said the event was a huge success.

"I commend the peaceful protesters and believe that peaceful movements like this can help lead to justice and further an important conversation across the nation," Radnor Police Superintendent Christopher Flanagan said in a statement.

Easttown Township Police Chief David Obzud said the protest was very peaceful and gave area residents a chance make their voices heard.

Officials said the only hiccups were a few heat-related medical issues, all of which were taken care of by Radnor Township and Berwyn fire companies.
