Landscape Contractor Business Workshop Being Held In Malvern
Learn how to determine the overhead of operating a landscaping business, create a profitable bid, and more at the two-day workshop.

MALVERN, PA – Landscape contractors are invited to a two-day intensive workshop in Malvern on Jan. 23 and Jan. 24.
The workshop will be held in conference rooms 205 and 206 at the Penn State Great Valley Campus in Malvern.
Scott Burk, owner of Scott's Landscaping, Inc. in Centre County, will lead the workshop.

Topics include how to determine the overhead of operating a landscaping business and create a profitable bid. Attendees will be able to ask questions and explore bidding practices with other contractors.
On the first day the class will work through a spreadsheet using real-world examples to figure overhead costs of a landscape installation business. Participants will get an electronic copy of the spreadsheet to adapt it and use it for their own business.

On the second day, the class will work together to create a bid for a small residential hardscape and plant installation job in detail, using the overhead costs determined on the first day of the class.
Join this workshop to discuss benefits and pitfalls of some common estimating methods. Explore the concept of production rates in depth, including why it is important to know what they are and how to determine these rates. The workshop will also cover profit margins and offering employee benefits.
Scott's Landscaping is a mid-size, full-service company. Burk is a graduate of the Landscape Contracting Program at Penn State University and serves as a guest instructor for current Penn State students.
The workshop is $200 and pre-registration and payment is required by Jan. 22.
