The community of Mt. Pleasant is mostly African American, and while the neighborhood itself dates back to the early 1800’s, most of its residents are descendants of families who settled there during the 1900’s as part of the Great Migration, according to the event description.
The firsthand accounts of earlier times in this tight-knit community provide a valuable insight into a bygone era and document some of the many changes it has seen over the years.
