Learn the How and Why of Using Rain Barrels

On Sunday, March 10 there will be a rain barrel workshop that is free to the public.

The event will be from 2 to 4 p.m. at Radnor United Methodist Church, 930 Conestoga Road in Garrett Hill.

Brian Vadino of the Delaware County Conservation district will talk about why protecting our streams is so important and how residential installation of Rain Gardens and Rain Barrels are important additives to our landscapes by slowing down the movement of water off roofs and other impervious surfaces into streets and streams, thus helping to reduce flooding in  our neighborhoods. 

Steve Norcini, Director of Public Works for Radnor Township will provide an update on the proposed Storm Water Ordinance and subsequent fee. With enough of a groundswell, there's a chance that installing rain barrels and rain gardens will serve as 'credits', to lower the proposed annual fee.

The owners of Camel's Hump Rain Barrels in Phoenixville will provide the 'Nuts and Bolts' of setting up a rain barrel.

At the conclusion of the meeting, each attendee will receive a certificate, and taken to our own Do-It-Best Hardware, located on Pennsylvania Avenue in Wayne, will be entitled to receive a sizable discount on the purchase of a rain barrel of their choice. 

Additionally, there will be door prizes: three rain barrels  have been provided by the Radnor Conservancy, the Garrett Hill Coalition and the Memorial Library of Radnor Township.
