LMHS Grad Installs Massive Art Display Outside Kobe Bryant Gym

Philadelphia artist Peter Trout Gard used reclaimed locker parts to install a new art piece at his alma mater recently. See photos here.

ARDMORE, PA – Lower Merion High School is used to its alumni doing cool things. From NBA stars (you know who we're talking about) to actors on Netflix (Dylan Gelula of "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt"), the school produces talented individuals. Now one of its grads has installed an art piece in the school just outside of the Kobe Bryant Gymnasium (that's who we were talking about).

Peter Trout Gard, who graduated from LMHS in 1993, had his piece "Lockersphere" installed at the high school recently.

Gard used reclaimed locker pieces from the school's 2010 renovation to create a massive 700-pound sphere that now hangs from the ceiling outside the gym.

"For decades these simple metal boxes lined the walls and literally created the school environment for thousands of students,” Gard said on his website. “So much has happened and will continue to happen in these hallways. The locker isn’t necessarily the home base it used to be, but in this moment in time, it’s a symbol that represents our varied but shared experiences.”

The sphere has 7-and-a-half-foot diameter and hangs 25 feet from the ground outside the gym.

Gard has two galleries of the "Lockersphere" online, one showing its installation and the other showing the creation process.
