Major Water Main Work Coming To Radnor Next Month

Aqua PA will be working on five township roads throughout November.

Radnor Township will be getting some overhauls to its water mains in November, with Aqua PA planning to replace the township's existing 6-inch pipes on several road int he township, according to an Aqua PA letter to customers.

The letter says the water provider will be working on the following street:

  • Fairfax Road between Lowry's Lane and Brooklea Road
  • Hickory Lane between Lowry's Lane and Brooklea Road
  • Debaron Lane between Lowry's Lane and Brooklea Road
  • Barcladen Road between Lowry's and Debaron Lane
  • Barcladen Circle between Barcladen Road and the end of the cul-de-sac.

Work is slated to begin Tuesday, Nov. 1 is is expected to be finished in December, Aqua PA said. Crews will typically be working from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the week, Aqua PA said.

The project includes installing 3,800 feet of 8-inch iron pipe and 600 feet of 6-inch iron pipe and costs $862,000. The company said the new mains will increase service reliability, reduce the potential for discolored water and improve firefighting capabilities in the area.

Access will be provided for emergency, mail and trash services, Aqua PA said. Residents will have access to their properties, but at times will need to enter from different directions due to changing work zones. We will notify customers 24 hours in advance of any scheduled shutdown. However, as with any construction project, an emergency shutdown might be necessary.

"Following the installation of the new water main, there will be a period of time during which the main will be chlorinated and tested before being put into service," the letter reads. "Once testing has been completed, we will transfer each water service and any fire hydrants onto the new main, then make the final connections on the side streets and abandon the old main. It is important to note that the trench will be covered with temporary black top at the end of each work day."

The company said in its letter than anyone with questions should call (610) 430-0747. Emergencies such as water quality issues should be reported to Aqua PA's Customer Service Department or emergency dispatcher at (877) 987-2782.
