Needles Found In Halloween Candy A Hoax: Police

Juveniles who reported finding needles in Halloween candy in Chester County will be charged with filing a false report, police said.

Reports of needles in Halloween candy in suburban Philadelphia were a hoax, police say, and the juveniles who made the false claims will be charged.

Kennett Square Police confirmed Friday the reports of needles found in Twix bars distributed during trick or treating were false. The reports of the needles in Halloween candy made national headlines.

The juveniles who reported finding needles in the candy bars admitted to police they lied, authorities said. “The juveniles were released to the custody of their parents and charges will be filed against them for filing false reports to police with the Chester County Juvenile Authorities,” Kennett Square police said.

The juveniles said they found a “needle type item” inside five wrapped Twix bars given out in the Stenning Hills area of the Borough, police said.

The announcement of the charges follows a similar incident in South Jersey, where a man there was arrested over the weekend for putting needles in Halloween candy and then making a false report about it
