Newcomers of the Upper Main Line hosted Holiday luncheon for the employees of Baker Industries in Malvern

The Newcomer of the Upper Main Line helps Community Neighbor at Christmas time.

For nearly 30 years The Newcomers of the Upper Main Line (NCUML- http://ncuml.org/ ) have catered a holiday luncheon for the employees of Baker Industries of Malvern. http://bakerindustries.org/ Baker Industries is a non-profit work rehabilitation program for vulnerable adults, including parolees, recovering substance abusers, the homeless, and those with mental and physical disabilities. Baker is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit that accepts no federal government funding.

This year turned out to be very special: the Bakers, Charlie and Weezie, are passing the torch to a new generation of leadership, and for the first time in the history of this event the gifts that were given to the 70 Baker Employees were 100% donated, many of them coming from NCUML’s generous membership. The employees were treated to a holiday lunch of sandwiches, a special recipe of chili, chips and delicious Christmas desserts. After lunch each Baker employee got to select their own holiday gift from the donated items, including gift cards, knit hats, lotions and holiday snack items.

The Newcomers group has no problem generating volunteers and donations for this event. Most volunteers have been active for 3 or more Holiday luncheons. The reason? It truly is better to give than to receive.
