Opal Designs Hair Salon Opens in Wayne

The salon has a 'hip, downtown feel,' its owner says.

Opal Designs is putting the "urban" into "suburban" —at least hair style-wise.

Owner Joseph Ferrer recently opened the salon at 7 Louella Court in downtown Wayne because he said there was a lack of hip and trendy salons. His salon is one "dedicated to hair artistry" that has expertise in color, extentions and Brazilian Silk Keratin treatments.

Ferrer left after many years at Jay Michael Salon and Spa in the Radnor Hotel, taking with him stylists Max Bonds and Christina Michelle.

Hair cuts start at $60; single color starts at $70; and highlights start at $95.

Although Ferrer has worked in New York, Los Angeles, Miami and San Francisco, this is the first time he has owned his own salon, the Central Pennsylvania native said.

Although being a new business owner is stressful, "I'm stepping into those shoes graciously," he told Radnor Patch.

Ferrer is planning to hold blow dry happy hours on Wednesdays from 4 to 7 p.m. with drinks and bites and $30 blow dries. An opening event for the public is planned for June 9.

Through the month of June Ferrer is offering a 20 percent off "friends and family" discount for local first responders, business owners and employees in the Wayne community.
