Proposed Courthouse In Radnor Twp. To Get A Public Hearing

RADNOR TOWNSHIP, PA — Radnor Township plans to hold a public hearing in early September to discuss a proposal to relocate the magisterial courthouse serving the township.

Delaware County Magisterial District Court 32-2-43 is districted for Radnor Township — and only Radnor Township. But the court is located in Newtown Square, at 4655 West Chester Pike.

As Patch first reported, Township officials are considering plans to relocate the court to 405 W Wayne Ave.

St. George Hunt Memorial Veterinary Hospital last occupied the commercial building, before relocating earlier this year.

Despite being in a largely residential neighborhood, the property is zoned for commercial use. Placing the District Court there wouldn't require a zoning change, according to local officials.

As proposed, the township would purchase this building for $1.45 million. Delaware County would lease it.

On July 20, the Radnor Township Board of Commissioners voted to introduce an ordinance to approve that purchase. A vote for adoption at a future commissioners meeting will be required for its passage.

The commissioners plan to hold a town hall meeting in early September to discuss the proposed courthouse relocation. A time and date haven't been determined, but township officials say they want to hold the discussion when residents won't be away on summer vacations.

"This forum will give residents an opportunity to learn more about the District Court's operations and ask questions regarding hours, types of cases, parking, housing, and other community matters," the township advisory says. "Township and county representatives will be present to address your concerns and provide project updates."
