Racist Photo, Letters In Delaware County Prompt Police Probe

Swarthmore and Nether Providence police are looking into two racially-charged incidents that led to a student walkout at Strath Haven High.

SWARTHMORE, PA – Police in Delaware County are looking into two racially charged incidents that has school students in ire.

Swarthmore Borough and Nether Providence police are investigating a racist letter and a photo of what appears to be two Strath Haven High School students in white hoods, similar to KKK hoods.

Swarthmore Police said there is no threat to the public, but are looking into the letter and photo with Nether Providence Police.

"We are extremely disturbed and disappointed at the thought that any of our students might be associated with this kind of vile display of racism," Wallingford-Swarthmore School District Superintendent Lisa A. Palmer said in a statement Wednesday. "We will very closely follow our district discipline policy as it relates to any student found posting this kind of material on a school device or network, or during school hours."

Palmer said the "hate-filled letter" was dropped off at area homes.

According to CBS Philadelphia the letter told minorities and their children would be killed if they did not leave the area.

In addition, the letter praises President Donald Trump and was signed "Sincerely, Donald and his Crew, specifically Mike Pence" with the MAGA hashtag, per the Delaware County Daily Times.

Fox 29 reports students at Strath Haven High walked out of the school Wednesday in protest of the photo and letter.

Swarthmore police said the letter and photo are unrelated.

Police even said before they were involved the parents and children had a talk and provided apologies those who got the letters.

Action News reports at least one of the people in the photo is a female student who had a hand in writing the letter.
