Radnor High School Honored for STEM And Career Learning Program

RADNOR TOWNSHIP, PA –Radnor High School recently earned high praise for its programs in STEM and career learning, according to the Radnor Township School District.

The high school was one of just 133 schools nationwide to be named a Project Lead The Way (PLTW) Distinguished School for providing broad access to transformative learning opportunities for students through PLTW Computer Science, Biomedical Science and Engineering, according to the district.

"We are pleased to be named a Project Lead the Way Distinguished School," Radnor High School Principal Dan Bechtold said in a statement. "The PLTW science, engineering and biomedical pathways in place at RHS allow our students to engage in hands-on projects that are reflective of real world challenges."

The PLTW Distinguished School recognition honors schools committed to increasing student access, engagement, and achievement in their PLTW programs, the district said.

To be eligible for the designation, Radnor High School had to meet the following criteria:

• offer at least three PLTW courses;
• have 25 percent of students or more participate in PLTW courses, or of those who participated in PLTW, at least 33 percent took two or more PLTW courses;
• have 70 percent of students or more earn a Proficient or higher on PLTW End-of-Course Assessments, or 10 percent of students earn the AP + PLTW Student Achievement.

PLTW programs let students develop STEM knowledge as well as in-demand, transportable skills that they will use both in school and for the rest of their lives, on any career path they take, the district said.

The high school offers five PLTW courses: Introduction to Engineering, Principles of Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering and Principles of Biomedical Science, according to the district.

"The PLTW courses teach our students both technical and problem solving skills that require them to think critically and creatively, as well as successfully communicate with their peers," Bechtold said. "We look forward to providing new opportunities for our students to pursue their passions, and congratulate our faculty, staff and students for their hard work."
