Radnor High School Tennis Coach Wins US Tennis Association Award

Coach Skip Shoemaker recently led the boys team to an undefeated 2016 season.

Radnor Township School District not only has standout student athletes, but also standout coaches. Most recently, the tennis coach was recognized by he United States Tennis Association for his work to serve – pun intended – the community, his enthusiasm, and teamwork.

The district announced recently Radnor High School tennis coach Skip Shoemaker was awarded the 2016 United States Tennis Association (USTA) Middle States' Edwin J. Faulkner High School Award.

“These awardees represent the very best in our tennis community,” said USTA Middle States Executive Director Marlynn Orlando. “They are our tennis heroes who dedicate themselves to growing this great game and delivering tennis on every level, in a wide range of communities across the Middle States Section.

Shoemaker not only exemplifies the award, which is given to representatives who embody enthusiasm, team camaraderie and community service, he is an ace coach as he led the boys team to a undefeated 2016 season, helped them earn a Central League Doubles Tournament title, and led the program to it's first Central League team title since 1993, the district said.

"The USTA Middle States awards recognize tennis leaders in 16 categories from across Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware," the district said. "Award recipients were chosen by a representation of USTA Middle States volunteers and staff, working together to compile nominations from each of the six Middle States districts: Allegheny Mountain, Central Pennsylvania, Delaware, Eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey and the Philadelphia Area."

Shoemaker and five other awardees will be honored at the Philadelphia Area Tennis District Award Ceremony on March 19 at Green Valley Country Club in Lafayette Hill, the district said.
