Radnor High School To Unveil Wall Of Honor

All area community members are invited to Radnor High School this Friday evening to tour the Wall Of Honor.

Radnor High School’s new “Wall of Honor,” a permanent memorial commemorating the 57 Radnor High School students who died while serving our country, will open for the first time to the public this Friday, May 27.

All area community members are invited into the school from 5-7 p.m. to tour the memorial, which will be located in the lobby, the school district said in an announcement.

The idea for the Wall of Honor was born in one of Radnor High School’s Senior Seminar classes during the 2014-15 school year. According to the school district, local students wanted to find a way to commemorate veterans from the school who had made the ultimate sacrifice.

"With initial support from former RHS principal Mark Schellenger and the sustained help of Marty Costello, Commander of Delaware County for the American Legion, the project has grown into a labor of love for many staff members and students," the announcement said.

Current American Studies students have conducted research on the inductees' lives and histories to create short films that will be accessible via a mounted 40-inch interactive touchscreen that is part of the memorial. The Wall of Honor will also include a plaque and a flag box for each of the 57 veterans and will span 26 feet in width and nine feet in height.

The community has shown support for the project. As of May 5, the district said $17,000 has been raised from district parents, alumni, veterans, community members and others to make the Wall of Honor a reality.
